Powershot SX Series Cameras - Compact and only one rung under DSLR
By Wonderwand
Canon cameras has so many fantastic models to choose from it may be difficult to know just where to start looking for the camera that is right for you. They have designed a powerful series called the Canon PowerShot SX series, and in this somewhat short review I will be showcasing four models that are all very good, reasonably priced and have gotten positive reviews from those who own them and are quite satisfied with their cameras.
The Canon PowerShot SX30IS
This camera is fairly new as it came out in the fall of 2010. It is common to see a good digital camera with just a 6-10x optical zoom lens, but this camera comes with an amazing 35x zoom lens.
I can barely fathom the things you can capture on this camera with that amount of zoom capacity. The Canon PowerShot SX30IS has a 14.1 megapixel resolution, which will produce fantastic shots and comes with an optical image stabilizer which helps keep the camera very steady so your pictures do not turn out blurry.
It has a 720p HD (high definition) movie recording feature which can produce quality videos with stereo sound. This camera in the PowerShot SX series is one very amazing camera loaded with a long list of great features.
The Canon Powershot SX230HS
This camera also came out quite recently in the spring of 2011. This also good digital camera comes with a 14x optical zoom lens, which is still quite high and can take great pictures of things far away. A Canon digital camera with just a 6x optical zoom lens captured amazingly close-looking shots of the full moon.
The PowerShot SX230HS has a 12.1 megapixel resolution, a three inch wide LCD (liquid crystal display) and comes complete with HS (high sensitivity) to create phenomenal pictures even in areas with low levels of light or even outside at nighttime.
This camera in the PowerShot SX series enables you to take great videos as well. These are able to record in 1080p HD (high definition) where some of the older models come with 720p, which by the way is still very good.
The CIS (continuous image stabilization) helps keep your images still while even during complete magnification. One nice thing is that while shooting videos, some people reported having no sound at all, while some did hear somewhat of a motor sound.
This camera comes with a GPS feature that has a maps program that actually helps keep track of your photos on a Google map.
The Canon Powershot SX210IS
This camera has been out a bit longer than the others have and it came out around the spring of 2010.
This camera is a bit smaller and lighter than the others are and is sometimes called a pocket camera. This can be a welcome feature if you are on a vacation carrying all sorts of heavy items around as it will be just one less thing weighing you down.
This camera comes with a 14x optical zoom lens, which simply enables you to get what looks to be a "close up" picture even from far away. This feature comes in handy especially at your favorite concert that you couldn't get front row seats for!
The PowerShot SX210IS has a 14.1 megapixel resolution, a three inch wide LCD widescreen display and has a built-in optical image stabilizing system which helps guard against "camera shake". If your hand is not completely steady from start to finish on snapping a photo there will be somewhat of a shake that can blur your picture.
This camera has traditional pre-set modes for scenes but also added some new fun ones as well such as fish eye and miniature (you really have to Google those to see how funny they look!)
This also comes with a special feature that waits until it detects a face before taking the picture while using the self-timer feature, but it also has a feature that will literally wait to snap until it detects either a smile...or a wink!
The Canon Powershot SX130IS
This model camera has also been out for a while as it came out around the end of summer 2010.
This followed up the previous model (SX120IS) with increasing the resolution just a bit from a 10 megapixel to a 12 megapixel resolution and slightly increased the size of the sensor.
This new body is a bit larger and just a tiny bit heavier but still only weighs in at approximately eleven ounces is all. This camera won't fit nicely into your shirt pocket as some will but it is not considered to be a large or bulky camera by any means.
The PowerShot SX130IS has a powerful 12x optical zoom lens, which is able to focus in on quite a wide range of objects from far away. This camera has a great combination of a three inch LCD display plus large text which enables easy navigation through the camera's menu.
The size is nice and large but also the display is quite bright and makes it even that much easier to read it-even in the bright sunlight!
Bottom Line
All of the above four Canon PowerShot SX digital cameras have a vast assortment of features that will appeal to both the novice photographer all the way up to the professionals.
All of these are very impressive cameras that all had extremely high ratings for their reviews from owners of these models and perhaps the best part...they all are very reasonably priced as well. I encourage you to look further into these four models at PowerShotSX.com.
